Development Programmes

Since its inception in 2002. LTCS has adopted sustainable development approach for uplift of the people with focus on people living below the poverty line. Keeping this in mind LTCS has adopted the following programmes.

Integrated Community Development Programme:

Under this programme. LTCS has been facilitating the formation of people’s organization i.e. SHGs, federation of SHGs, micro-credit assistance,micro-enterprise development, capacity and skills development etc. The programme has been implemented in 12 regions of Meghalaya. SO far LTCS has formed more than 53 SHGs comprising about 1000 people. The groups have generated over Rs. 10 lacs in savings and mobilized about Rs. 8 lacs as internal loans.

LTCS is also collaborating with Special Welfare Board of Meghalayain implementing Integrated community development programmewith focus on peace building.

LTCS is promoting federations of SHGs, village governance institutions as people’s organizations for participatory development.

Agriculture and Food Security:

Agriculture and livestock development as means to improve the living standard of the people of the region is a priority programme. The judicious utilization of local uplift of the people is the objective. Rural Resource and Training Centre(RRTC) is implementing the programme. LTCS is promoting organic agriculture among the people. Application of science and technology is another integral part of the programme.

LTCS has been implementing a programme to encourage people to take up mushrooms cultivation and beekeeping as income generating activity with support from Shillong Municipal Board and Meghalaya Urban Development Agency.

Health:

National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) is our effort to improve the health services and health condition of the people. LTCS has collaborated with AIDS Prevention Society and Meghalaya Aids control Society (MACS) in implementing the project. Primary health and family welfare services and treatment for common diseases have been provided to the people through the health centers along the highway. The project also envisages in reducing the STD incidence for prevention of HIV/AIDS among truck drivers, Sex workers through effective behavioral change communication, sexually transmitted disease management.

Children Development:

Under this broad theme LTCS has been conducting four programmes namely, Sponsorship of children, Children’s Aid for Responsible Education, Scholarship Programme and Childline. LTCS is sponsoring 240 children from 5 centers of Meghalaya. Childline Shillong has been providing emergency services for the street children in Shillong. We also give support service to IMPULSE Network NGO. LTCS also offers Network scholarship assistance to deserving students of poor families.

Gender and Development:

This intervention aimed at involving women in the development process. The objective of the programme is to utilize the potentials of the women and bring them to the forefront of development process. Formation of women SHGs and financial assistance to them to start income generating purpose are the two broad activities of the interventions more than 75 percent SHGs are women. Family Counseling Centre has been providing counseling and rehabilitative services to women, children and addressing social issues like alcoholism, drug addiction in Shillong city.

Environment and Appropriate technology:

LTCS has established different agricultural and livestock modules at Bethany Society for demonstration and production purposes. Organic spice cultivation like ginger, turmeric and pepper leading to organic certification through Spice Board, Cochin is an achievement Establishment of LTCS computer centre supported NEC, Doner, Govt. of India is yet another milestone in this direction. A mushroom spawn production laboratory has been established.

Support Services in Development:

LTCS has been providing support services to NGOs, government departments and other voluntary organizations to develop their capacity and skills. LTCS has been conducting capacity building training in participatory, rural appraisal, managerial and facilitation skills, project formulation, monitoring and evaluation, SHG management, development communication etc. LTCS conducts skills development training like land based farm management, agriculture, horticulture, farm management, entrepreneurship development, bare foot technician programme, livestock management programme etc.

Skills Development:

Skills development is a priority programme of LTCS. LTCS is facilitating technical, functional and vocational skill development of the people with special focus on youth. LTCS has initiated a programme to enhance technical, functional and vocational skill through six technical and vocational centers in Meghalaya. LTCS is assisting different organizations in skill development programme with support from North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi).
